Waterloo students will be able to ride the Fed Bus under a new licence starting 15 September, the Friday of the first week of classes. The Ontario Highway Transport Board granted Student Transportation of Canada a licence for Fed Bus.
In the 15-page ruling dated 9 August 2006 the board reviewed the application, the criteria for a licence, and the evidence presented and provided the following conclusion.
Having examined these five factors, the Board would like to summarize its conclusions:
- there is a demonstrated public need and convenience for the service;
- there is a unique service that the Federation requires;
- the applicant has the financial ability to provide the service;
- the existing carrier, Greyhound, has not proposed a service that will mirror the current needs of the Federation, and
- based upon the evidence presented, the Board determines that there will be an [sic no] economic impact on Greyhound.
Therefore, after reviewing all of the evidence, the Board is of the opinion that the issuance of the public vehicle operating licence will serve public necessity and convenience and grants the applciation as applied for.
