Council sends U-Pass referendum to executive

Students won't be considering a U-Pass referendum question when they go to vote in Feds elections next month. Students' Council sent the issue of a universal bus pass to the executive to consider the possibility of a refundable pass at its meeting Sunday.

Councillors were considering whether to call a referendum on a non-refundable $41.67 fee that would pay for a transit pass.

Lazaridis being appointed to Order of Ontario

Former Waterloo student and co-founder of RIM, Mike Lazaridis is receiving the Order of Ontario.

Lieutenant Governor James K. Bartleman announced the 29 appointees yesterday.

Sportswriters say McPhee in lead for football coach's job

Writers at The Record and The Hamilton Spectator are saying that a Ticats coach, Dennis McPhee, is the favourite for Waterloo's next football coach.

McPhee is the linebacker and defensive line coach for CFL's Hamilton TIger Cats.

Globe report card grades universities

The Globe and Mail released its University Report Card on Tuesday, giving schools letter grades in different categories based on the responses of more than 32,700 students to over 100 questions.

Having started in 2002 this is the fifth year the newspaper is rating universities based on data from studentawards.com. The report card compares schoold is four different size categories. University of Waterloo is included in the Large( more than 22,000) category, which includes 15 schools.

Fed Bus will continue: Transport Board

Waterloo students will be able to ride the Fed Bus under a new licence starting 15 September, the Friday of the first week of classes. The Ontario Highway Transport Board granted Student Transportation of Canada a licence for Fed Bus.

Transport board secretary said he expects to have the ruling on the Fed Bus licence application early next week, the week of 14 August.

Feds delay budget for Fed bus hearing and call for student support

Feds see the upcoming Fed Bus hearing with uncertainty. The budget is being delayed because of the revenue the bus service provides and the uncertainty about whether the bus service will be allowed to continue.

Co-op sees end of J-1 visa issue: Henry

The proposed changes to J-1 visa program might not affect University of Waterloo as feared Feds VP Education Jeff Henry told Students' Council today. The J-1 visa is the visa under which many University of Waterloo co-op students work in the US.

Feds would serve as ticket agent under Fed Bus plan

While many of the workings of Fed Bus would remain, some aspects of the weekend bus service would change to comply with the May ruling from the transport board, according to the business plan submitted to the board in preparation for the licensing hearing next week. One of those changes is that Feds will not act as chartering group but a ticket agent.
