UW still ranked 'most innovative' [Daily Bulletin]

Waterloo is first in most innovative, second in best overall, and second in the comprehenxive category in this year's Maclean's University Ranking. The Daily Bulletin reports on the rnaking that was released today.

Canada can learn from Waterloo Region [The Record]

The Record has a an opinion/insight piece from Frank McKenna. In it he talks about how education and entrepreneurialism contribute to the prosperity of Waterloo Region. He also identifies challenges including: not retaining or attracting post-secondary graduates, low exports despite proximity to much of the US population, and a large projected population growth.

Frank McKenna is the former premier of New Brunswick and former Canadian ambassador to the United States and currently deputy chair of the TD Bank Financial Group.

UW makes the grade for vegetarians [Waterloo Chronicle]

UW has been nominated by peta2 to be named as most vegetarian-friendly colleges in Canada. The organization's website lists 43 scholol including 14 Canadian Universities who are in the running. Students can vote at peta2.com/college.

Students not interested in municipal vote [The Record]

The Record ran a story today about low student turnout in municipal elections. The story includes quotes from Mayor Herb Epp, Cord Editor-in-chief April Robinson, Feds President Michelle Zakrison, WLU student Griffin Carpenter, and political science professor Robert Williams.

UW eyes Stratford campus [The Record]

The Record is reporting that Stratford City Council approved a the idea of locating a satellite campus of Waterloo for liberal arts. The story says that a decision on whether to proceed should made in three to six months.

Tigers feted on campus [National Post]

The National Post has a story today about how WATSA a Tamil student club at University of Waterloo held celebrations on campus despite being suspended. It also talks about alleged ties between some of its members and the Tamil Tigers, a group listed as a terrorist by the Government of Canada.

University of Waterloo has been selected to participate in a program to improve student learning by the Carnegie foundation.

Schools stand by Maclean's [The Record]

The Record is reporting that Waterloo and Laurier are staying in the Maclean's rankings after 11 universities announced that they would not participate.

11 universities bail out of Maclean's survey [CBC.ca]

Eleven universities, including U of T and McMaster from Ontario, announced in a letter on Monday that they will not participate in this year's Maclean's university rankings. They won't provide the data that Maclean's requests.
